Vera N. Dickerson, 93 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Vera N. Dickerson, 93, of Chestertown, died Dec. 30, 2009, in Chester River Manor, Chestertown. Mrs. Dickerson was born on Dec. 15, 1916, daughter of the late James B. Newnam and Vera E. Smith Newnam. She was raised near Pomona and in 1944 moved to Baltimore working as Senior Administrative Assistant for the Baltimore City Police Department, retiring after 20 years of service. In 1966 she returned to Kent County residing in Langford Bay Estates and most recently Colonial Manor Apts. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William E. Dickerson in 1986; a brother, Richard B. Newnam; and a sister, Phyllis A. Townsend. Mrs. Dickerson is survived by four children, Barbara Lee Myers and husband Richard of Worton, Md, twins, William E. Dickerson and wife Jan and James B. Dickerson and wife Dot and Ann E. Karczeski and husband, Len all of Baltimore; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 2, in the Galena funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial in Crumpton Cemetery.
