According to authorities, at approximately 2:58 a.m. Saturday, troopers responded to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus, for a report of a man being treated for gunshot wounds.

During the investigation, troopers learned the victim was reportedly asleep in his camper in the rear of a residence on the 200 block of North Old Mill Road when an unknown suspect entered the camper and shot him, police said.

The victim was struck by multiple rounds of gunfire to his upper body, police said. After the suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction, the victim sought help from a neighbor.

On Tuesday, police said the victim was in serious but stable condition.

Police said there is no additional information regarding the suspect at this time.
