University of Delaware winter session to start virtually

NEWARK — University of Delaware students taking winter session classes will start them virtually on Monday.

In an email to students on Thursday, the university said the majority of classes will shift to online for one week, but residence halls will still reopen on Sunday as scheduled.

At the conclusion of the first week of classes, the situation on campus will be reevaluated with the intent to revert to in-person learning as soon as it is safe to do so. Additionally, mandatory testing will be required next week for all students, faculty and staff who will be on the campus during winter session, regardless of vaccination status.

Those at the Wilmington, Georgetown, Dover and Lewes campuses must get tested at one of the campus testing sites or submit community or at-home PCR test results as well.

These measures from UD were released following Gov. John Carney’s state of emergency announcement. The university said although the deadline for students to receive their booster shots is Jan. 24, everyone, including all faculty and staff, are encouraged to get it as soon as possible.

Dining services will be grab-and-go only and mask wearing is still mandatory in all shared spaces regardless of vaccination status.
