United Way of Delaware honors Dupont with Diamond Anniversary Award

WILMINGTON — As part of celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, United Way of Delaware recently named DuPont and its employees as recipients of the “Diamond Anniversary Award,” recognizing the company’s enduring partnership with UWDE since 1946.

“In 1946, a group of dedicated public servants formed what we now know as United Way of Delaware. Seventy-five years later, and with the help of many thousands of supporters, United Way of Delaware is an integral part of the fabric of Delaware, driving community impact from Seaford to Claymont,” Michelle Taylor, UWDE president and chief executive officer, said in a prepared statement. “In all that time, no corporation has been more supportive of United Way of Delaware for longer, or more generously, than DuPont. It is with deep gratitude and humility that we present this award to the people of DuPont, past and present, and to the DuPont leadership teams past and present, who through their support for United Way have done so much to make Delaware a better place for all.”

“On behalf of our employees, I’m honored and humbled to accept this prestigious award,” said Ed Breen, DuPont executive chairman and chief executive officer. “For 75 years, the enduring partnership between DuPont and the United Way of Delaware has helped to revitalize our communities and give life-changing opportunities to help our neighbors thrive. Our employees have shown the best of who they are through their service to their communities and their dedication to make a difference for all Delawareans. We look forward to many more years of generously supporting UWDE.”

Ms. Taylor said the “Diamond Anniversary Award” is the only corporate award UWDE is presenting in its 75th anniversary year.

“Hundreds of corporations have partnered with us across the years, and we are grateful for each of them, no matter their size or the length of our relationship,” she said. “But it’s rare to be able to mark a relationship that has endured for 75 years. We think that’s extraordinary, and we wanted to stop for a moment to make sure that the people of DuPont know that we see them, we appreciate them, and we are grateful for all they have done, and continue to do, to help make United Way of Delaware an effective resource for positive social change in Delaware.”

Since 1946, DuPont has been UWDE’s longest running and most generous corporate partner.

Over the decades, the company has made significant annual corporate contributions to UWDE, and tens of thousands of DuPont employees have volunteered countless hours in service to their community, supporting early education, college and career readiness, and financial stability initiatives for the people of Delaware.

“These are just a few examples of the generosity of the people of DuPont. When I think of the definition of an ideal corporate partner, I think of DuPont,” Ms. Taylor said.
