Two teen males seriously injured in motorcycle crash in Dover

Posted

DOVER — Two males ages 14 and 15 suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle crash Tuesday, Dover Police said.

Spokesperson Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said that at approximately 10:33 a.m. the 15-year-old male was operating a stolen motorcycle (Honda Grom) with the 14-year-old as a passenger. The 15-year-old operator rode recklessly, police said, running several red lights, and disobeying multiple traffic laws prior to the collision.

The motorcycle was later determined to be stolen out of Philadelphia, police said.

While traveling south on North DuPont Highway, approaching Lepore Drive, the 15-year-old operator of the stolen motorcycle ran a red light at a high rate of speed and collided with the side of a Honda CRV that was legally making a U-turn, police said.

Both the operator and passenger of the motorcycle were Bayhealth Kent Campus for treatment, police said.

Further investigation revealed that the 15-year-old operator was under the influence of alcohol as well, police said.

Both teens remain hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

Once released from medical care, police said, the 15-year-old operator will be charged with DUI, second-degree vehicular assault (two counts), receiving stolen property and multiple traffic offenses.
