Two men arrested on drug, firearm charges in Dover

DOVER — Two men face drug and firearm charges following a traffic stop Monday.

Dover police spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said Dominique Melton, 28, of Wilmington, had been involved in a firearm investigation when officers stopped a vehicle he was driving near Whatcoat Village Apartments at 9:46 p.m. John Wyatte, 23, of Dover, was the passenger.

A search of the vehicle yielded a 9 mm handgun, 13 grams of cocaine, 47 pills of ecstasy, 0.37 grams of heroin, 43.6 grams of marijuana and $336, Cpl. Schmid said. The men were taken into custody without incident.

Melton was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a concealed deadly weapon, possession of crack cocaine in a Tier 2 quantity, possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine in a Tier 2 quantity, possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of probation. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $54,200 cash bail.

Wyatte was charged with possession with intent to deliver ecstasy in a Tier 2 quantity, possession of ecstasy in a Tier 2 quantity, possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $17,200 secured bail.
