Two men arrested, now face murder charges for Dover shooting

Posted

DOVER – Police have arrested two men in connection with the Oct. 10 shooting at Dover Commons that left one made dead and another injured.

Lt. Mark Hoffman of the Dover Police said a 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old both now face first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder charges.

The names of the suspects were not released. Police cited a new state law that limits when law enforcement can make the information public.

Detectives identified a 22-year-old male from Dover as one of the suspected shooters and obtained warrants for his arrest and a search of his residence on Crawford Avenue, Lt. Hoffman said in a news release Wednesday night.

At 1:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, members of the Dover Police Department’s Special Operations Response Team, Drugs, Vice and Organized Crime Unit, and Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the residence. They were assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service First State Fugitive Task Force and Delaware State Police.

Dover police said the suspect exited the residence after the assembled team of officers announced their presence and was taken into custody without incident, Lt. Hoffman said.

Police recovered a 9mm handgun, ammunition, and clothing and accessories matching those worn during the shooting, Lt. Hoffman said.

Detectives identified an 18-year-old male as the second suspected shooter and obtained an arrest warrant, Lt. Hoffman said in the news release.

Information gathered during the investigation indicated that he may be in Sussex County, Delaware or Eastern Maryland. On Wednesday, October 21, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force–Salisbury located the juvenile at a residence in Snow Hill, Maryland.

He was taken into custody without incident and is being held in Maryland pending extradition to Delaware, the news release said.

Nasir Cox, 22, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, died from injuries sustained in the shooting. A second victim, a 21-year-old old male, was taken to the hospital. No update on his condition was shared Wednesday night.
