NEWARK — A pair of Lake Forest High field hockey players have signed with the University of Delaware field hockey program.

Carmella Gannon and Brynn String are part of a five-player recruiting class announced by coach Rolf van de Kerkhof.

A midfielder, Gannon was a three-year starter for the Spartans, earning first-team All-State as a senior. She cored 19 goals as a defensive midfielder.

“Carmella’s energy and determination make her an exciting addition to our offensive lineup,” van de Kerkhof said in a press release. “Her ability to find the back of the net and create opportunities for her teammates will make an immediate impact for Delaware.”

String, a midfielder, was a four-year starter for Lake Forest who made first-team All-Henlopen South her last two seasons. She scored 28 goals with seven assists.

“Brynn brings a calm yet competitive presence to the field,” van de Kerkhof said. “Her ability to adapt and excel in multiple positions will strengthen both our midfield and defensive lines. Her club and high school experiences will be invaluable as she transitions to collegiate play.”

Also signing with Delaware are Ella Cellini, midfield, Phoenixville, Pa. (Villa Maria Academy); Katie Clarke, midfield, Purcellville, Va. (Loudoun Valley); Amanda Rattay, forward (Newark Charter); and Kasey Rieger, forward, Langhorne, Pa. (Neshaminy).
