• Wicomico County Councilman Victor H. Laws said he wasn’t surprised by his council colleagues’ chilly reaction to his proposal for a Charter Review Commission to study -- among other things -- electing a County Executive. Laws is also calling for a stronger “Sunshine Law” to increase government transparency, as well as zero-based budgeting of county expenditures.
• Doug Frey pitched a two-hitter while also blasting a two-run homer as the Moose beat Optimist, 4-1, to capture the 1976 Salisbury Little League Championship. In the Pony League final, Rotary beat the Lions team in two straight games, 5-4 and 6-5, to win the Pony League crown. Keith Webster drove in two runs in the final game.
• Residents of Whitehaven descended on the County Council on Tuesday to complain that their requests for road repairs and a demand for adding  two new trash bins at the county collection station have been ignored. Village resident Betty Augustine said a 1975 letter that residents had sent to the council had yet to be answered. The residents also said the Whitehaven Ferry was being operated in an inappropriate manner and that an accident would occur soon if officials didn’t make improvements.
• The 21st annual Feldman-Wyatt Invitational golf tournament was set to begin at the Elks Club Golf Course. The top golfers included John L. Sanford Jr. of Ocean City, Bob Bradway of the Elks, and Stan Morris and Butch Waller of Green Hill. Elks head pro Jack Slayton said the course’s greens are in excellent condition for the event.
• Betty Jane Dashiell has been appointed small craft safety chairman for the Wicomico Chapter of the American Red Cross. A health educator in the Wicomico County school system, the Hunting Park Drive resident has two U.S. Power Squadron certificates in Piloting and Seamanship.
• The Fisherman’s Wharf Room has opened at Norm Niblett’s The Huddle on West Market Street. A soft crab dinner is $3.95, a crab cake dinner is $3 and a 12-ounce Delmonico steak is $5.50.,
