• Frank Perdue told The Daily Times’ Brice Stump that his new $1.6 million airplane is for sale. The chairman of the board of the poultry company that bears his name said he doesn’t expect a buyer to match his purchase price for the Cheyenne six-seater turbo-prop. Perdue said he hopes to get about $800,000 for the plane, because of rapid depreciation. Perdue said cost-cutting initiatives will have him back to flying commercial and chartering aircraft. The company’s streamlining efforts have triggered rumors that it is about to be bought by the nation’s top poultry producer, Tyson Foods.
• The slates are full for the upcoming Salisbury Council elections. Lawyer Donald Davis, 47; Junior Achievement Executive Director Jill Barbon, 42; Realtor H. William Benn, 46; financial adviser Robert Caldwell, 47; and cement company owner S. Norman Holland Jr., 65, will square off for three open seats. Holland is the lone incumbent. The winners will join Gertrude Shockley and Robin Cockey on the council.
• Gerry B. Truitt, president of Delmarva Poultry Industry Inc., said the trade association’s 1988 Fund Drive has officially generated $390,738. The cash will be used for research grants, educational seminars and labor matters.
• Two Wicomico Junior High School male seventh-graders have been suspended for 10 days each by schools Superintendent Evelyn B. Holman after they brought an unloaded gun to school on Tuesday. Holman said the young men were turned over to Salisbury Police and could be expelled. She said one student said he showed off the gun to impress other students.
• The new “Lady Hess” -- called “a large-size boutique to fit all of the need of the full-figure woman” --  opened in Salisbury Mall. It is located between the current Hessa Apparel store and Peebles.
• Preparations were continuing for the weekend’s Salisbury Festival. The Block Party was on tap for the River Walk. This year a new event has been added and is expected to be a crowd generator: The Miss Salisbury Swimsuit Competition, for women ages 18 to 21, which will be held at Circle and West Market streets.
