• Mayor W. Paul Martin has released what he calls a “progressive yet conservative” $20 million city spending plan for Fiscal 1994 budget that raises water and sewer fee a whopping 15 percent. Martin said the hikes are needed to address system costs and replace revenues lost in the closing of the Campbell Soup Co. plant. Garbage fees for residents would also soar to $60 from the current $35.
• Parkside’s Dave Capobianco allowed only one run in six innings and eight of nine Parkside batters recorded two hits each as Crisfield was defeated 11-1 on Monday. The game was halted in the seventh inning after Derek Van Buren and Dominic Flora collided in centerfield while attempting to catch a flyball. Each player was rushed to Peninsula Regional Medical Center with face and neck injuries. Meanwhile, Wi-Hi’s Ben Alder hit a seventh inning single to break a deadlock with James M. Bennett. The tribe held on to win, 1-0.
• Dagsboro Road residents didn’t get the answers they were hoping for Tuesday when they complained to the County Council that large-truck traffic was a nuisance, a threat to safety and needed to be curtailed. The 57-residents who signed a petition said trucks representing Perdue FArms were the top culprits. Council Vice President Phil Tilghman explained to the petitioners that if the county were to tell Perdue not to use the road, the problem would only become more severe somewhere else.
• Salisbury State University named Michael Vienna as its Director of Athletics, replacing William Lide. The Associate Director since 1989, Vienna came to SSU from Kent State University.
• John Lerch of Chesapeake Insurance has been named Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Ward Museum and Foundation.
