• Because of massive traffic problems created by workers changing shifts at the shirt factory and nearby laundry, Salisbury officials have approved a new traffic flow plan for Brown, Anne, Church and Naylor streets. New one-way traffic patterns will be enforced and new parking regulations enacted. The changes will take effect as soon as the signs are posted.
• The City Council has approved a huge new apartment complex to be called Oak Hill on Riverside Drive at Wicomico Street. Developers George Strott and W. Evans Buchanan said there will be five buildings containing 41 one-bedroom apartments and 25 two-bedroom apartments. Rents will be $110 per month for the one-bedroom units and $122 per month for two bedrooms.
• After weighing an application for a bulk cement plant to be built on the Cranberry Meadows field off Cypress Street, the City Council decided its approval would threaten the success of a shopping center already approved and planned for the west side of Cypress. Attorney Vaughn Richardson, representing Petroleum Transport Co., said his client would appeal the council’s decision. Attorney E. Dale Adkins said city leaders would jeopardize the $2.5 million shopping center plan if they allowed a cement plant to be built next door.   
• Asbury United Methodist Church was the setting Saturday when Sandra P. Perdue became the bride of Sewell L. Spedden Jr. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. Robert Mackey. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin P. Perdue of Woodland Road. Mr. Spedden is from Cambridge. A reception was held at the Elks Home in Salisbury. Miss Ann E. Perdue, the bride’s sister, was the maid of honor; James A. Perdue, the bride’s brother, served as an usher.
• Duchess Lady, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever owned by Bobby Williams, took top honors at the Wicomico County Pet Fair held at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center.
• Attending a National Association of Counties meeting at the White House, several Wicomico County leaders had an opportunity to shake hands with President Lyndon Johnson. The list included: County Commissioners Wade Insley and Albert Bailey, County Attorney Richard Cullen, Public Works Director Delbert Davis Jr. and Roads Engineer Harry Jones.
• Ricky Pollitt of Allen returned home from Peninsula General Hospital after being a surgical patient for the past 10 days.
