• Broken off by vandals two years ago, the Mason-Dixon “Middle Point Marker,” located 6.5 miles west of Delmar on the north side of Route 54 will finally be replaced this week. The effort is a joint project between the Maryland and Delaware boundary commissions. Placed 217 years ago, the surveyors -- unlike Mason and Dixon -- will have modern instruments to determine an exact location.

• Peninsula Bank has opened a new branch office on Route 13 in south Salisbury. Attending a ribbon-cutting for the new location were Bank President Hugh W. Mohler; Bank Vice President Jeffrey F. Turner; Branch Manager Jeffrey M. Smith; Salisbury Mayor W. Paul Martin Jr.; County Councilman John M. Morris; and City Council members Martha A. Graham and Robert A. Powell.

• Lt. Lianne Wulff, a graduate of James M. Bennett High School and Salisbury State College, has been promoted to the rank of Captain in the U.S. Air Force. The daughter of Dr. Jack and Beth Wulff of Salisbury, she serves as a laboratory officer in charge of Hematology at Osan Air Force Hospital in Osan, Korea. Meanwhile, U.S. Navy Gunners Mate James Welsh reported for duty at the Navy Recruiting Station at Twilley Centre in Salisbury, where he will seek new enlistees to the branch. 

• Wicomico Senior High School’s 1985-86 Homecoming Court has been selected by the student body. Court members are: Karen Hedger, Melissa Wagner, Michelle Banks, Kelly Clark, Alexis Brooks, Julie Nelson and Della Boone. The Homecoming Queen will be announced with the football team takes the field Oct. 26.

• Dr. H. Gray Reeves, 58, has died overseas in London while undergoing an operation following a massive heart attack. The prominent Salisbury surgeon had been vacationing in England with his wife, Shirley Ward Reeves, when he became ill earlier this week. His three sons, Mark Reeves, Henry Reeves and John Patrick Reeves, joined his brother, Dr. Talmadge Reeves, in flying to London to be with Mrs. Reeves. He was a member of the surgical firm of Drs. Bloxom, Reeves, Insley, Bartkovich and Crawshaw.

• Hearings are planned on the Wicomico County Board of Education’s plans to make major changes to the school boundaries. A separate hearing will be held to decide the fate of Sharptown Elementary School, which has been proposed into a consolidation with Northwestern Elementary in Mardela Springs. Two options are on the table: One is being proposed by Board Member Corinne Les Callette, the other by Board Member William G. Duvall.

• The Perdue Edible Oil Refinery will be formally dedicated Oct. 26 at the Perdue Farms complex on Hobbs Road. Joining Perdue Chairman Frank Perdue for the event will be Maryland Gov. Harry R. Hughes. The $11 million plan, the first in Maryland, takes crude soybean oil produced by the manufacture of poultry feed and converts it to edible oil that can be used by commercial bakeries, salad dressing and margarine manufacturers, and seafood processors. Perdue processes more than 6 million bushels of soybeans each year.
