Thursday, Nov. 30 1978 --

• Police were searching for David Schoolfield Sr. of Salisbury after he broke away from deputies in District Court and fled the county Courthouse. As he was being led away to begin serving a 30-day jail sentence in a nonsupport case, Schoolfield pushed deputies away and fled down a set of back stairs. Two deputies tried to grab the ban -- one was thrown into a court bench and the other, Deputy John Walston, was thrown on his back and taken to Peninsula General Hospital for treatment. Judge Lolly Simpkins had just finished sentencing Schoolfield when the defendant bolted the room. Schoolfield was last seen running up the alley between J.C. Penney’s and Castleberg’s Jewelers toward the city parking garage.
• Dr. Kendrick McCullough, former head of Pathology at Peninsula General Hospital, died at age 73. Head of the Pathology Department from 1947 until his retirement in 1973, McCullough grew the staff from two when he arrived to 75 today.  
• The United Way of Wicomico County has reached 75 percent of its 1978 goal and has called in a “cleanup Man” to help nail down the final 25 percent. General Campaign Chairman Thomas McCarthy said Jon P. Sherwell has accepted his appointment as Chairman of the Cleanup Committee. Sherwell, an officer with the Bank of Delmar, is a former Campaign Chairman. The 1978 goal is $240,000.
• Debbie Lombardo, Amy Esham, Louie Amabili and Mike Zephry were among the members of the Salisbury State College Dance Company practicing for their Dec. 2 performance in the new Maggs Physical Activities Center. The show is designed to appeal to audiences of all ages; tickets will be sold at the door.
• At a ceremony at the Zion United Methodist Church, Troop 429 Scout Master George Reddish pinned Ron Hall of Salisbury with the Eagle Scout Award. Hall is one of just 1 percent of all Scouts in the nation to achieve the ultimate honor.
• William David Bounds of James M. Bennett Senior High School and Timothy M. Meagher of Wicomico Senior High School have been chosen to serve as student pages in the upcoming 1979 Maryland General Assembly session. Bennett’s Sue Carol Parker was selected as an alternate. The pages will work for two nonconsecutive weeks in the assembly and will be assigned to eith the House of Delegates of State Senate.
• Down in Fruitland, Gary Pusey’s Auto Sales was preparing for its Grand Opening Event on Saturday. The car dealership is located at Fruitland Boulevard and Main Street. Free hot dogs and Pepsi-Cola will be served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Some 135 entries were registered to participate in this Sunday’s Salisbury Christmas Parade. Participants will group in the Montgomery Ward parking lot and proceed north on Waverly Drive, left onto Carroll Street, right onto Circle Avenue, left onto South Division Street and then turning right for the grand procession down East Main Street, where the judges’ grandstand will be located. The parade will end with a left turn on Poplar Hill Avenue, where it will disband.
