• A spring cloudburst dumped 2.08 inches of rain on Salisbury, flooding low lands all over Wicomico County. Several residents of Shad Point were trapped in their homes because of high waters. Roads all over the city and county were closed because nearby drainage ditches had overflowed.
• The Wicomico Art League was scheduled to hold its 11th annual art exhibit that weekend at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center.
• The James M. Bennett High School track team was set to make its debut against Seaford High School. Coach Tom Bailey said his athletes were prepared to make history as the first-ever track competitors to represent the news Salisbury high school.
• Elvis Presley, starring in Kissin’ Cousins,” was the top bill at the Boulevard Theater.
• Super Giant on South Salisbury Boulevard was offering three models of its new “Giant Lawn Mowers.” A mid-level, 19-inch-cut model featured a Briggs & Stratton engine and was priced at $37.88.
• A Wicomico County Jury recommended Shore Distributors be paid $373,600 for three tracts and a building it owns at Poplar Hill Avenue and Calvert Street. The property had been condemned for acquisition for use in the new Salisbury Parkway. Mayor Frank Morris, whose family owns the plumbing supplies company, removed himself from any discussions over the Shore Distributors case.
• Oscar L. Carey and H. Louis Horner have been named to the Advisory Board of Union Trust Bank Co. in Salisbury. Carey is a Salisbury-area real estate developer; Horner owns and operate Horner Auto Sales.
