• Ralph E. Brumbley, a Democrat running for Wicomico County Council, said that if elected he’ll work to establish night meetings for at least once a month. Said Brumbley: “ For many years, the County Council meetings have been held in the daytime when people have to work. This gives the council a free hand to do what they want with little opposition.”
• Mrs. Louise Harcum said she sold 350 chickens at a barbecue held on Route 50 west of Mardela Springs, bringing in $629 to help finance a legal effort to overturn a state reapportionment plan that splits Wicomico County in half. Salisbury lawyer Victor H. Laws has filed an appeal, but said it will cost upwards of $5,000 to pursue the matter in an appeals court. Mrs. Harcum said the plan disenfranchises a significant number of Wicomico voters.
• Phil Boltz, Gene Wharton, Jerry Forespring and Joe Tongue were the salesmen ready to help customers at Phil’s TV-Audio & Appliances at 1313 South Salisbury Blvd. A three-door Frigidaire was on sale for $639.
• Linda Hammer and Marcella Malone, formerly of Clip-n-Curl, have joined Angele Beauty Salon in the Super Giant Shopping Center.
• Mrs. Edith Sterling, who lives on Woodland Road with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Davis, celebrated her 97th birthday. At a party in her honor, she said she would like to live to see the U.S. Bicentennial Celebration in two years.
• Ice World announced plans to open in West Salisbury in fall 1974. The facility will be the area’s only indoor ice rink and offer hockey, speed skating, lessons and figure skating.
• Groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the new Salisbury Jaycee Little League Park on Pemberton Drive in Salisbury. The Jaycees said at least two of four planned fields will be open for play next spring. Attending the groundbreaking were Mayor Elmer Ruark, Jaycees President Frank Himerlright, Park Chairman Bob Brown and Little League President Ronnie Zimmer.
