  • The community is awaiting a decision on whether a new Downtown Salisbury mall project can be feasibly undertaken by the local governments. Government and business officials have been working on the project proposal since February. The latest proposal calls for constructing a $50 million enclosed shopping center on top of the current central business district. 
  • Wicomico Senior High School began the fall term with 1,270 students and a staff of 76 educators. New teachers joining the Wi-Hi staff are Edward Radolan, Betty Neucomb, Yvonne Burke, Donna Coleman, Neal Kjeldsen, Faye Stearns and Cheryl Pierce. Robert D. Evans has returned this year to serve as Principal.
  • Marshall W. Moore of Salisbury, Senior Vice President of Loyola Federal Savings & Loan has been elected Chairman of the State Universities and Colleges of Maryland.
  • Movies playing this weekend in Salisbury include “Breaking Away” at the Boulevard Theatre, “North Dallas Forty'' and “The Concorde: Airport ’79” at the World Cinemas, and “The Muppet Movie” and “Meatballs” starring Bill Murray at the Mall Cinema.  
  • In business news, Richard H. Evans was named General Manager of Corporate Communications of Delmarva Power & Light. He is the former Executive Assistant to Delaware Gov. Pierre S. du Pont. Linda L. Webster of Prudential Insurance Co. on East Main Street in Salisbury sold more than $1.375 million in life insurance in the first half of the year and has qualified to attend Prudential’s 1979 Regional Conference in Denver. Earl Bethards has been named Sales Manager of the New Homes Division of Community Building Suppliers.
  • The Salisbury-Wicomico Planning and Zoning Commission has approved a draft ordinance that will allow a television studio, offices and a modest transmission antenna to be built in Downtown Salisbury. Officials for MDV Television have received federal approval to establish a television station Wicomico County and are currently looking for office space.
