• Salisbury gas stations did a brisk business as the nationwide no-gas day loomed. Under an emergency federal order, gas stations nationwide were to be closed Sunday. Bill Bridell of the Eastern Shore Gas Distributors Association said that drivers who usually only buy a gallon or two at a time were seen filling up on Saturday.
• Mayor Dallas Truitt’s commitment to reduce lighting across the city is triggering concerns about a possible spike in crime rates. As an energy savings move, the mayor wants to turn off lights in Salisbury City Park, as well as other areas of town.
• Charles H. “Dick” Clark of Clark Brothers milk distributorship has been named vice-chairman of the United Fund campaign, He replaces Campbell Soup’s Dennis Daughtery, has been transferred back to New Jersey.
• Dr. Ho K. Cho, a native of Tokyo, was introduced to the Salisbury medical community at a dinner held at Green Hill Yacht & Country Club. An OB-GYN, Cho has joined the practice of Hanson, Gallagher & O’Neill. He and his wife, Chung, live with their two children in Moss Hill Townhouses.
• Joseph W.T. Smith, 75, Wicomico County Clerk of the Circuit Court, formally retired after 55 years of courthouse service. Smith was named clerk in 1946 when J. Widam Selmon died in the post.
• Patricia Ann Jolley was crowned 1974 Wicomico Junior Miss at a pageant held in James M. Bennett High School. The daughter of Loretta B. Jolley and the late Thornton B. Jolley of West Road, the Bennett High School Senior will represent the Lower Shore in the state Junior Miss Pageant in Waldorf, Md.
• Planning the upcoming Christmas Bazaar for St. Francis de Sales Catholic School were Mrs. Guy Boniface, Miss Elizabeth Sacca, Mrs. George P. Hurchalla, Mrs. Robert S. Seit and Sister Janet Seabott, the school’s principal.
