• A $155,667 fiscal year 1976 operating budget has been approved for Wor-Wic Tech Vocational Community College. Wor-Wic Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Arnold Maner said the school will offer five full-time occupational programs and one full-time arts and science program for the fall 1976 term.
• Wicomico County Public Works Director dealt a blow to a Wicomico River dredging plan when he announced that a section of the Brick Kiln Landfill slated to receive dredge spoil was ill-suited because of possible leaching into groundwater, caused by the weight of the spoil pressing down on garbage already deposited in the landfill. Councilman Lewis Riley told his colleagues that he thought more meetings should be scheduled to find other possible spoil sites.
• The Rio Theater in Downtown Salisbury met its fate with the wrecking ball. A crane belonging to Howard S. Culver Construction Co. of Hebron demolished the structure -- formerly the Wicomico Theater -- on Tuesday. Built in 1930, the South Division Street theater next to the county library is being torn down to make way for the city’s Downtown Urban River Redevelopment project.
• The “dynamic sounds” of Hellenic Bouzoukia were to be featured Friday as part of Greek Nite at Aberdeen Barns Restaurant at Route 50 and Truitt Street. Host Ted Visikides said belly dancer “Kalela” would also be performing.
• In scoring his 14th and 15th goals of the season, Bobby Dunn’s play proved the difference as Wi-Hi’s soccer team beat Parkside 2-0. Mike Mercer, Ken Welsh, Mike Wade and Vane Wiggins also turned in fine efforts for the Tribe, with Jeff Hart stopping five of Parkside’s eight shots on goal. In field hockey, James M. Bennett’s Joan Bloodsworth scored three goals to single-handedly beat Stephen Decatur 3-1, though she has assists from Nicki Landry and Toni Callahan.
