History Friday, Nov. 10, 1967 --

• Franklin P. Perdue of A.W. Perdue and Son. Inc. announced his $37 million company will purchase the Swift & Co. poultry processing plant in Downtown Salisbury. Perdue said the plant, which has been closed since June 30, will undergo extensive renovations to produce whole eviscerated and cut-up chicken. This will be the company’s first processing plant; Don Mabe has been selected as the plant’s first manager.  
• A dance will be held Saturday at the Green Hill Yacht & Country Club for members and guests. The Don Howard Band will perform. The hosts are Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Carey and Mr. and Mrs. John W. Downing.
• Castleberg’s Jewelers in the Wicomico Hotel was offering a 10-transistor, 8-band portable radio that included shortwave, marine and weather bands for $34.95. Customers could finance the radio for $1 per week.
• “Questions And Answers On Christian Giving” was the scheduled sermon topic by the Rev. Lewis C. McKinney at Allen Memorial Baptist Church on Chestnut Street. At Trinity Church on Broad Street, Minister Ray Lawson Tawes was scheduled to speak on “Life’s Extras.” Edwin L. Johns was scheduled to be the guest speaker at Wesley Temple.
• Salisbury merchant William F. Riordan, organizer of the National Indoors Tennis Championships scheduled for February at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center, announced that the event has already sold out, even though it’s still four months off. Riordan also announced that Sports Network had signed on to broadcast the event for a second straight year.
• Donna Littleton of Mount Hermon Road, a senior at Wicomico Senior High School, was crowned Homecoming Queen on Friday night by last year’s queen, Debbie Swaney. Later, Wi-Hi beat Milford on the gridiron, 46-27.
