• A search was underway for a 13-year-old Mardela Springs boy who was last seen two days ago walking near his home on Spring Hill Lane. Danny Mumford, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Mumford, is a student at Mardela School. Some 40 members of the Emergency Radio Assistance Club have joined the hunt for the young man.
• Gilbert L. Smith, 60, was named the new Clerk of the Peace Court for Wicomico County. A Democrat, the South Clairmont Drive resident has been the court reporter for 40 years. Robert W. Dallas, a Republican, will become the first-ever full-time People’s Court judge when cases begin being heard May 1.
• The Internal Revenue Service office in Salisbury was crowded with tax filers seeking answers to last-second questions and seeking deadline help with their forms due on Monday. The office phones were jammed and there were long lines for assistance. Officials were expecting even bigger crowds on Monday.
• In their final production of the season, the Community Players were set to produce “Damn Yankees” April 25-29 at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center. Mrs. John Hess was to star as Lola, and was rehearsing under the direction of the noteworthy choreographer, Mrs. Charles Meeks.  
• State Sen. Frederick C. Malkus Jr. filed as a candidate for the upcoming Maryland Constitutional Convention. Malkus said he would campaign against efforts to make state sheriffs, Clerks of Courts, Registers of Wills, state Attorney General and Comptroller appointed rather than elected posts. The election is June 13.
• The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce has leased 10 billboards across Salisbury, all with the message “Business is great!” Frank Swallow, the Chamber’s managing director, said the “Business Is Great In Salisbury” promotional campaign reflects strong business sales occurring within the city and may entice business people from other town who might be passing through to consider starting a business here. The Chamber has also purchased 500 political-style campaign buttons to distribute.
• The Delmarva Power & Light Co.’s Men’s Glee Club was set to give a performance on Tuesday at the John B. Parsons Home. The glee club is directed by Josef Privette.
• Trailing 6-3 in the final inning, Wi-Hi rallied to beat Pittsville High School, 7-6. Kenny Johnson’s pinch-hit single ignited the rally. Steve Meilheimer drove in Frankie Berry with the winning run. Pittsville’s Nathan Dixon had been dominating the entire game, until the 7th inning when Wi-Hi rallied.
