• On a weekend in which three people drowned in Delmarva waters and three people were killed in local traffic accidents, former prominent Salisbury businessman Walter J. Willing, 63, died at Peninsula General Hospital after a traffic crash on Route 50 that involved a Tri-State Oil Co. truck. He was the former operator of Willing’s Stationery & Office Equipment Supply Co. on East Main Street.
• A 35-year-old inmate, sentenced to life in prison but working at the Wicomico County Prison Farm when he escaped Saturday, was apprehended when he was spotted hitchhiking on Route 13 south of Salisbury.  Delma E. Bozman, convicted in the 1948 murder-robbery of a Baltimore cab driver, had been reported missing at the Poplar Hill farm-camp during a lunchtime roll call. Bozman gained national attention when he was sentenced to hang for the murder, but Gov. William Preston Lane commuted the sentence to life in prison.
• Acorn Drive-In owner Lloyd Pusey said the restaurant will be closed only long enough to make repairs at the popular eatery, after a fire early Saturday caused extensive damage.
• State Police said a six-car pileup that occurred Sunday on Route 50 about 3 miles east of Salisbury was actually two separate accident that occurred two minutes apart. In the first crash, a car driven by Priscilla Nock of Pittsville collided at Atlantic Avenue was a car driven by Elton Gravenor, also of Pittsville. Minutes later, four westbound vehicles collided when they slowed for the Atlantic Avenue intersection crash scene.
• The Shays and Teagles families held a huge family reunion in Salisbury City Park. The oldest family member in attendance was 77-year-old Julius Shay; the youngest was Paul Davis Perdie, the 5-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Oren Perdue.
• Bob Wells was named the 1962 Salisbury City Golf champion, after carding rounds of 77-76 to beat Bill Pump by a single stroke. Wells’ first round 77 was played at Green Hill Yacht & Country Club; the 76 was recorded at his home course at the Elks Club. Bill Venables made a 6 on No. 18 at the Elks to finish third, while Pump chipped in for a birdie to claim second. Defending champ Charlie Muir shot 80-81. The annual two-club event is sponsored by Sealtest Ice Cream of Salisbury.
