• The Student Government Association of Salisbury State College held a Bike-A-Thon over the weekend that raised $565 in cash and an undertinied amount i n pledges. Some 65- riders participated in  16-mile course that went from the college to Shad Point and around River Road. Billy Jarrett, 11, rode the course four times to be named “Junior Star.”
• An 8-mile backup was reported Sunday night at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Police said the traffic began building at 5:30 p.m., reached its peak at 9 p.m. and didn’t clear out until midnight. Officials speculated that first-of-the-season spring weather sent additional throngs of people to the Eastern Shore for the day or weekend.
• Ira G. Epstein appealed the county building inspector’s denial of a permit to construct a 13-foot-by-18-foot addition to his home on Irene Avenue in the Huntington Park subdivision. Cyde Rosen, meanwhile, applied for a permit to construct a grocery store on the north side of Johnson Road in the Parker Farms subdivision.
• Bob Barnes TV was celebrating its 18 anniversary.
• The Continental Cafe in One Plaza East in  Downtown Salisbury was offering “Staek Night” on Mondays and Wednesday.A 16-ounce Delmonico was $4.95. The band at Little Jimmy’s in Delmar was “Jason.”
• Thomas W. Wilson, assistant instructor in biology at Salisbury State College, suffered a fatal heart attack while playing with his band, Center Ring.
• A man who approached a Salisbury Police officer while wielding an ax early this morning was shot, Chief Leslie Payne announced. Though a warning shot was fired by Pvt. 1st Class Robert Lyons , Payne said Robert Barkley, 48, of Delaware Avenue, continued toward the officer and was swinging an ax, Barkley was shot in the leg, just above the knee. The incident occurred near the Main and Division streets intersection.
