DOVER — Caesar Rodney High scored twice in the top of the seventh inning before holding on for a 9-7 victory in a Henlopen North baseball matchup on Thursday afternoon.
The contest was the season opener for both squads.
The Riders opened up a 9-4 lead going into the bottom of the seventh when a three-run homerun from Ryan Perkins pulled the Senators within two.
CR, which beat Dover for the third year in a row, trailed 3-0 and 4-3 before rallying for four runs in the fifth. The Riders’ 15-hit attack was paced by Colby Rail and Caden Heritage, who had three hits apiece.
Teegan Monroney homered in the seventh while Ben Haught’s two-run triple gave CR the lead for good. Staring pitcher Steven Donnigan earned the win.
Cole Turner had two hits and an RBI for the Senators.
