DOVER - Thomas Vincent Dewey Sr., of Dover, formerly of Wilmington, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at Capital Nursing Home. He was 82. Mr. Dewey was born on Feb. 2, 1928, in Chester, Pa., to the late Preston L. and Eva McGee Dewey. Thomas worked at Winterthur as a Horticulturist, a job he greatly enjoyed. He later worked at Newark High School and then the State of Delaware at various positions, eventually retiring in 1993. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife Carol. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 14 years, Carol Ann Dewey, who died in 2000. He is survived by his sons, Thomas V. Dewey Jr. and his wife Brookes of Fremont, Calif., Eugene P. Dewey and his wife Martha of Brooksville, Fla., and Matthew Dewey and his wife Gloria of Camden; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the American Heart Association of Delaware. The family would like to express thanks to Capital Nursing Home, State Street Assisted Living and Silver Lake Nursing Home for their compassionate care for our father. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
