James R. Thomas Jr. will serve as the Greater Salisbury Committee’s acting president while Jan Wiseman, the longtime president, remains on extended medical leave.
GSC Chairman John J. Allen made the announcement.
Thomas, the retired CEO of George, Miles & Buhr Architects, is a former GSC chairman. He is chairman of the Board of Trustees of Trinity United Methodist Church and Secretary of the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.
He also served as national President of the American Council of Engineering Cos. based in Washington, D.C., and was chairman of the ACEC Business Insurance Trust.
He is a former chairman of the Holly Foundation, as well as a former member of the Peninsula Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees and the Horizons of Salisbury Board of Trustees. He serves on the Leadership Council of the American Cancer Society for the Lower Shore and is a member of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce and the Advisory Board of Shore Bank.
“I look forward to assisting the Greater Salisbury Committee through this difficult time and maintain Mr. Wiseman’s direction and implementation of GSC’s mission of helping to identify community problems, working to find broad and sound solutions and assisting in resolving problems," Thomas said.
GSC is a group of business and professional leaders in Wicomico, Somerset, Worcester, Sussex, and Accomack counties who, since 1967, have been helping make our area a better place in which to live and work. Its mission is to help identify community problems, seek to find broad and sound solutions, and then assist in resolving these problems.
