Thomas L. Lord, Jr., 56
Thomas L. Lord, Jr., of Waverly, VA who was in the process of moving back to Harrington, DE passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. He was the son of Thomas L. Lord, Sr. and the late Patricia R. Lord.
Thomas was raised in Harrington and graduated from Lake Forest High School in 1983. He joined the U.S. Navy where he spent most of his career in Japan as a radar tech. He later worked as a Captain for the Virginia Department of Corrections for 14 ½ years, where he was well respected. He was certified in many areas of his job, and was a very supportive mentor to his officers, being only a phone call away when they needed him for advice. In addition to his job with Corrections, Thomas worked security for Facebook.
Outside of work, Thomas enjoyed caring for reptiles, and had a variety of them as pets. He was a thrill seeker, enjoying rollercoasters, fast car rides, and was a horror movie junkie. He enjoyed his yearly anniversary trips to Myrtle Beach where he and his wife would try a new adventure each year. He was sarcastic, funny, caring, and a dearly devoted husband, dad, and "Papi" to his grandkids. Thomas' strong will kept him fighting to the very end to get better. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Lord; children, Jasmine Lord (Jordan), Brandon Lord (Christian), Alexis Fraser, Jamie Fraser (James), and Chucky Fraser; grandchildren, Hailey and Dakota; his father, Thomas L. Lord, Sr. (Vicki); brother, Tim Lord (Laura); sister, Jennifer Howard (Mike); special aunts, Linda Sue Wamsley (Mike) and Nancy Welch; a niece, three nephews, several cousins and other extended family.
A Service Celebrating the Life of Thomas will take place on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, at 12 p.m. A visitation for family and friends will start at 11 a.m.
Arrangements are by the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, Inc., Harrington, DE. Visit us at www.melvinfuneralhome.com to send flowers or sign the online condolence book.
