Thomas Charles Lyons Jr., 84
DOVER - Thomas Charles Lyons Jr., died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, in Kent General Hospital. He was 84. Mr. Lyons was born Feb. 7, 1924 in Millburn, N.J., to the late Thomas C. Lyons Sr. and Myrtle Mae Wilson Lyons. He was married to Roberta Alma Chammings on Feb. 7, 1954, his 30th birthday. As a young man he was employed in transportation for Allied Chemical Corporation. He later became certified as a fireman for the state of New Jersey, and was employed as a boiler fireman at Riverside Hospital in Boonton, N.J. Mr. Lyons and his wife, Roberta, relocated to Dover, in 1989. Mr. Lyons worked for 16 years at Papen Farm as traffic control manager. He retired in 2007. Mr. Lyons enjoyed listening to Big Band music, watching crime dramas, and followed college baseball. He was a big New York Mets fan. Mr. Lyons also was a big trivia enthusiast and delighted in sharing stories of his youth with his grandchildren. Mr. Lyons was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Roberta Alma Lyons. He is survived by his three sons, Thomas C. Lyons III of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., James M. Lyons and his wife Cathy, of West Milford, N.J., and Terence P. Lyons of Dover; two daughters, Susan E. Walls of Dover, and Roberta M. Bolger of Dover, with whom he lived; a sister, Avril Lyons of Williamsburg, Va.; seven grandchildren, Meghan Lyons-Risi, Kelle Lyons, Jillian Bolger, Kailin Bolger, Lauren Bolger, Thomas Bolger, and Brad Walls. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Friday, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
