There is clear water for fishing, more so in Sussex County near the ocean than inland it seems. I have not ventured far so I really don’t know. The Delaware River up north is full of ice that will be headed this way eventually.
My driveway is still a quarter-mile bobsled run, on top of four inches of ice. I’m not going to lie, it’s fun to see how many times you can spin around in an uncontrolled spin. There are acres of field on each side so it’s safer than a Walmart parking lot at Christmas with Ray Charles driving. If you do it just right it’s a nice slow-spinning, four or five times around, smooth glide down the driveway. If not, it gets a little crunchy on the side panels and we slam into the big drifts still there and bounce around.
Fishing is for the brave who don’t mind the cold. I’ve heard of a few trying to ice fish in some areas. Be really careful. Ice breaks quicker than you think. I wouldn’t trust any mill ponds that flow a lot of water. Open water along edges isn’t too hard to find. I’ve tried ice fishing here on the ice in Milton once. Drilling that hole was a little nerve wracking. The best advice is make sure you are above three to four feet of water, so you can stand up if you go through.
You could pick up some dogfish or skate in the surf. The tuna might still be out front — I’m not going out there and looking for them, too cold. There’s also the small detail of needing a boat. White perch and yellow perch are around. You have to go fish to catch.
If you are into astrophotography, want to try it out, or just space stuff in general, check out the Seestar S30 smart telescope camera system. This compact little telescope and camera system has the software to track your objects and edit into amazing stacked pictures. Pick a nebula, planet or the moon, and shoot. The moon surface shots are amazing. It’s a cool little camera system that would be amazing for a classroom too. If you look up Outten Photography, Hunter Outten, from Georgetown, has a lot of pictures displayed and reviews on the Seestar systems.
It’s been quiet in my woods this past week which is odd for this time of year.
Stay safe out there it’s cold, cold — to the bone.
