Friday evening from 6 to 8 is another 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury, and this month’s theme is Paw Prints -- it’s all about our furry friends.
3rd Friday is going to the dogs, with special activities, vendors and nonprofit groups for canines. So bring the pooch for a night out in Downtown Salisbury.
On the Plaza, artists, crafters and nonprofits will fill the streets and the Salisbury Jaycees will be pouring local wine and beer selections. The main stage will feature performances by AMP Studios -- the Academy of Music Performance, the local music school located in Downtown Salisbury beneath Headquarters Live. AMP Studio’s young performers range from ages 12 to 18, but don’t let their age fool you, they rock! Meet local canine organizations like the America’s VetDogs, the Yellow Dog Project, the Little Paws Dachshund Rescue and more. Plus, AI&G volunteers will be on the Plaza doing hand-lettered paw-print art with the doggies.
Kids and adults will get to make a print of their pet's paw using non-toxic paint, with wipes available for cleaning, and personalize it with their pup's name! Be sure to stop by The Art Institute and Gallery’s REBOOT annual members exhibition as well, downstairs in the Gallery Building.
On North Division Street, the Salisbury Kennel Club will show off their agility dogs’ skills with live demos, plus a special participation area where you can test your dog’s abilities on some beginner agility courses.
K-9 Heeling will be doings live obedience demonstrations periodically throughout the evening. Stop by and meet Downtown Salisbury’s brand new groomer Smooches Fur Pooches outside of their new location next to Edit Downtown Salon. Grab a snack at the Berks Hot Dog truck or create your own cupcake at Cake Art.
3rd Friday is always shopper’s paradise, with the downtown shops and boutiques open late with special events and sales.
New to the Plaza this month, Corsets and Cogs will be showing off their new storefront. Be sure to stop by Angello’s Unique Gift’s brand new location in the newly renovated River View Commons building, previously the Feldman’s Building, with Acorn Market joining them this month! Acorn Market will be celebrating with live music by Nate Clendenen and the Saltwater Stringband and Angello’s Unique Gifts will be doing wine tastings and offering 10 percent off father’s day gifts.
Salisbury University Art Galleries | Downtown Campus will be hosting their last 3rd Friday in their current space, before they move to the newly donated Gallery Building, re-opening this September. On display is Cheryl Hochberg | Strange Pastures.
Hochberg paints animals, realistically rendered, at times isolated and other times in environments. These creatures are a platform to explore qualities of familiarity and strangeness as well as the knowable and the mysterious.
Also still on display, Organic Space: New Work in Glass by Jon Rees explores the architectural language of form, space, and light through sculpture.
Down on Poplar Hill Avenue, The Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council will celebrate 3rd Friday outdoors by hosting Arts on SWAC Street | Summer Fun, on the street in front of its in its elevator-accessible loft space above Season’s Best Antiques from 5 to 8 p.m.
