HARRINGTON - Theodore L. Layton passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014. He was 86. Ted was born on June 9, 1928 to Carlton Layton & Viola (Biddle) Layton who preceded him in death. Also preceding in death were his step-mother, Beulah (Hostedler) Layton; and his grandson, Todd W. Layton. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beatrice (Armour) Layton. He is also survived by his six children, Bruce W. Layton (Donna) of Greensboro, N.C., Theodore Glenn Layton (Kathy) of Wyoming, Dennis R. Layton of Chambersburg, Pa., Keith A. Layton Sr. (Laurie) of Harrington, Michael D. Layton Sr. (Terri) of Harrington, and Terri L. Deeney (Mark) of Milford; 13 grandchildren, Daryl S. Layton, Angela L. DiMondi, Theodore G. Layton Jr. (Janelle), Timothy P. Layton (Amy), Philip R. Layton, Kelly L. Kampstra (Jim), Keith A. Layton Jr., Matthew Layton, Lisa L. Layton, Michael D. Layton Jr. (Brandi), Andrew L. Layton (Whitney), Amanda B. Deeney, Ryan M. Deeney; and eight great-grandchildren, Ashley N. Layton, Stacie L. Layton, Isabella DiMondi, Emerson Layton, Elizabeth Layton, Ava Layton, Amelia Layton & Liam Layton. Ted was a retired Maintenance Supervisor from Dover Air Force Base; a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 76 for many years, a member of several area Square Dancing Clubs; a member of the Burrsville Ruritan Club and the Bethany Church of the Brethren. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved Camping, Square Dancing, Hunting with his sons, and Fishing at the Outer Banks. Always ready for a good conversation and had plenty of good stories to tell. He will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved him. A public visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 29, 2014 at the McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street, Harrington. Funeral Services will be 12 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014 at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bethany Church of the Brethren, 91 School Street, Farmington, DE 19950 or Harrington Fire Company, 20 Clarke Street, Harrington, DE 19952.
