CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Thelma M. Deaton, 75, of Chestertown, departed this life April 27, 2011, at Memorial Hospital in Easton, Md. She was born May 11, 1935, in Pondtown, Md., to the late Charles Edward Teat, Sr. and the late Sarah Druecilla Teat. She grew up in Queen Anne's County and graduated from Kennard High School, Centreville, Md., with the class of 1953. In 1969 she became a resident of Washington Park where she remained until her passing. In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by two sons, a sister and a brother. She is survived by her husband, Ralph, mother-in-law, Bessie "Dolly" Deaton; Aunt, Mary Scott; sister, Gloria (John); brother, Dallas (Zuma); daughters, Roxanne and Terra; sons, Donzelle (Lea) Darryl (Letonia), Marlon (Lisa); godson, William Pauls, II; grandchildren, Devona (Desmond), Vernon, Jonathan, Queena, Avis, Deron, Bronte, Jarrod, Jamal, and Jaden; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, good neighbors, and friends. A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Janes United Methodist Church, 120 S. Cross Street, Chestertown, Md. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday and two hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Janes U.M. Church Building Fund. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home.
