DOVER — The First State Manufactured Housing Association has announced four recipients of the Manufactured Housing Scholarship Award for 2021 - 2022. Each scholarship is in the amount of $2,500, and totals $10,000.
The following students were named recipients:
- Isaac Brumbley, a 2020 graduate from Delmar High School and currently a rising sophomore at Virginia Tech, majoring in civil engineering. He is interning this summer for the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, with plans on entering the construction industry as an engineer after graduation. Isaac enjoys working out, hiking and playing recreational sports.
- Alexis Buckley, a 2021 graduate of Indian River High School in Dagsboro will be attending Wilson College in the fall majoring in veterinary nursing. Alexis was a part of the volleyball team for her high school and will continue playing in the fall at Wilson. Alexis was an honors student and received Academic Achievement awards for all four years of high school. She was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and the FFA club throughout her years at Indian River. She has maintained a 4.3 GPA while working two jobs and participating in various extracurricular activities. Alexis resides in a manufactured home in Millsboro.
- Kaylee Lewis, a 2021 graduate of Lake Forest High School, will be attending the University of Delaware in the fall and will be majoring in elementary education. Kaylee was a varsity cheerleader and was a member of National Honor Society and BPA. She was in numerous dual enrollment courses and volunteered her time with a youth cheerleading program and at multiple elementary schools. Kaylee resides in a manufactured home in Houston.
- Vrunda Patel, a 2021 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School, will be attending the University of Michigan in the fall to study political science and international studies. Vrunda was involved in the National Honor Society and Leo Club. She is an active member of her community through volunteering. Vrunda resides in a manufactured home in Lewes.
Since 1999, the First State Manufactured Housing Association has provided $69,000 in scholarship grants to 55 students. This scholarship program is available to high school seniors or graduates who reside in manufactured or modular housing within the State of Delaware for at least one year prior to application.
Eligible candidates are evaluated on their scholastic record, financial need, written essay and recommendations from teachers or community leaders. The scholarship may be used for any type of accredited degree program, or any accredited technical training, licensing or certification program. Full or part time registration in an accredited program is acceptable (part time minimum - seven credits).
