The suspect in a fatal stabbing was apprehended Monday and now faces murder and assault charges, according to Maryland State Police.

Cobey Mishler, 18, was arrested without incident at a residence in the 1000 block of Schumaker Woods Drive in Salisbury and was held without bond.

Mishler is charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. He was taken before a court commissioner for his initial appearance.

Mishler is accused of fatally stabbing 18-year-old Seth Abbey on Sunday night, police said.

Shortly after 10 p.m., Abbey was with his girlfriend in the parking lot of a Beaglin Park Drive apartment complex when three males on bicycles approached the girlfriend. An altercation ensued between the victim and the suspects, police said.

Troopers and EMS personnel responded and found the victim suffering from apparent stab wounds.

Abbey was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by hospital personnel.

The cause of death was multiple stab wounds and the manner of death was ruled a homicide, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Maryland State Police immediately secured the crime scene and conducted a search of the area. The suspects were not immediately located.

State Police investigators are working with the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office. Crime scene technicians from the Forensics Sciences Division responded to process the scene for evidence.

Abbey and Mishler were both recent graduates of James M. Bennett High School, according to a spokeswoman for the school system. Mishler’s address is listed as Fitzwater Street in Salisbury.

Police do not believe this to be a random act of violence.
