Students in Delaware need every minute of every school day in class, so they can learn to read and do math at grade level. It wouldn’t hurt if they also learned some history, civics, foreign languages, home economics and trades. Being 37th out of 50 states is not a great report card. And, if the truth be known, there are low-achieving schools where 5% of the students are reading and doing math at grade level. Protesting should be handled like an after-school activity or a pep rally — an activity done during their own personal time, as something students choose to do. Also, teachers must not organize these protests.
If they have a club in school that wants to organize a protest after school, so be it.
Protest on your own time. Get an education in school.
