Taylor: Reassessment fiasco needs to be fixed

Posted

Thank you, Cynthia Blevins, for putting into succinct words what many Delaware residents are thinking (“Reassessment results in ‘penalties’ for middle class”). I am a homeowner in Newark and Lewes, and a lifelong Delaware taxpayer. When this reassessment was started, each Delaware resident should have been given a list of what each home, parcel of land or business was going to be judged on. This should have included the weight of each category. But no, we were just told it was happening, and when we got our reassessments, we were given a very vague way to protest what our homes’ values were assessed for. This was a Democratic power play.

Delaware has not had a Republican administration since 1992, when Mike Castle left the governor’s position. Only one other statewide role, treasurer, has been held by a Republican since then.

It is time for Delawareans to wake up and vote every Democrat out of both state and federal positions.

The Democrats are leading us down a rabbit hole, like in California, New York and Illinois.

Delawareans deserve answers to this debacle of a reassessment that we have been forced to accept.

Gov. Matt Meyer, when can we expect answers?
