I think Maria Matos misunderstands what the American people voted for Nov. 5, 2024 (“Ban sought for 287(g) ICE partnerships”). The American people voted to have the 12 million illegal immigrants, plus millions of gotaways, removed from the USA. Joe Biden illegally ignored the immigration laws of America and allowed people from over 100 countries to enter. These individuals are gang members, murderers, rapists and mentally ill, and some are seeking asylum. Very few were vetted. The way to enter America to have a better life is to follow our immigration laws, which includes petitioning for entrance and having a sponsor.
If a person entered our country by just crossing the border, he or she is here illegally and is a criminal, subject to removal by police or Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Due process does not apply when you cross the border illegally.
Every state and local police force should enter into an agreement with ICE to catch and deport these illegal immigrants. Delaware should join Florida, Texas, Arkansas and the many other states that are working with immigration agents to deport the criminals who crossed our border illegally.
Other items of note: The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the 300,000 Venezuelans who Biden brought in may now be deported. The vote was 8 for removal and 1 against.
Also, I do not hear Maria Matos worrying about the 300,000 children who were human trafficked into the U.S. and that ICE is trying to find, to prevent them from being sold into sex slavery.
We need to protect all Americans, including legal immigrants. The police in Delaware are well trained and can handle working with immigration officials.
If you are a legal immigrant, you should not fear any law enforcement, whether it be ICE or the local police.
