Tatiana Nikolievna Akinfieva Smith

Akinfieva Smith, 92 DOVER - Tatiana Nikolievna Akinfieva Smith, of Dover, pass away Thursday, September 15, 2011, at Kent General Hospital. She was 92. Mrs. Smith was born September 5, 1919, in Odessa, Russia to the late Nikolai and Nadezda Akinfiev. She had worked as a ballet instructor/choreographer/artistic director for Ballet Met (Ohio), Delaware Regional Ballet, Eastern Shore Ballet Theater, and Diamond Dance Company. She also taught for Marion Tracey Dance Studio, Salisbury Studio of Dance, Diamond Dance Studio, A Dance Class, First State Academy of Dance and a host of other schools in Delaware, Maryland, and Ohio. Tatiana served as guest faculty at North Carolina School of the Arts. She was a previous soloist of the National Opera Theater in Yugoslavia, where she performed for King Alexander. Tatiana retired in 2006, after a lifetime of dedication to dance. Mrs. Smith enjoyed performing, playing the piano, drawing and painting, and sharing her love of dance with so many. Tatiana found the most joy in watching her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren perform. Her dancers throughout the years also brought her unending joy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Alfred Smith; son, Paul Smith, who died as an infant; and grandson, Randy Dale Coker Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Natalie Coker of Camden; grandchildren, Misty Yencer and her husband Steve of Magnolia, Anthony R. Coker, Sr. of Smyrna, Taylor, Jacob and Jordan Leager all of Dover; great-grandchildren, Victoria T. Brown-O'Brien of Magnolia, Madilynn E. Yencer of Magnolia, Anthony R. Jr., Aubrey R. Coker both of Smyrna; and step-grandson, Matt Kelley of Magnolia. Funeral services will be held 5 p.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover, DE. Friends may call one hour prior. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Diamond Dance Company, where a scholarship fund will be made available for aspiring dancers. 130 W Chestnut Ridge Dr. Magnolia, DE 19962.
