DOVER - Sylvia Willis Cooper, of Dover, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the Country Rest Home, Greenwood. Mrs. Cooper was born near Denton, Md., on Sept. 19, 1941, the daughter of Mary Frances Shaffer Willis and the late Lloyd Winfield Willis. She was a graduate of the former Harrington High School and the Goldey-Beacom School of Business. Following graduation from Goldey-Beacom, Mrs. Cooper worked at Peoples Bank in Harrington until her marriage. She then became primarily a homemaker while raising her children, but held several part time jobs, the latest being at Physical Therapy Services in Dover. Mrs. Cooper has been a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover since 1973, where she held many offices and volunteer positions. She was also active in the 9 – Women's Delmarva Golf Association; she was recently award an honorary membership in the association. She was a member of the Board of Managers of the Palmer Home Charitable Trust for many years. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jon Wayne Cooper of Dover; her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Thomas Craig of Indianapolis, Ind.; her son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Laura Cooper of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three grandsons, Gavin and Connor Craig and Henry Cooper; one granddaughter, Anna Jane Cooper; one sister, Carol Reddish who resides near Bridgeville and one nephew, Rodney Reddish; and several cousins. Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 27, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. State Street, Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Wesley United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 209 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901. Arrangements by Torbert Funeral Chapel.
