Sussex Academy kindergarteners welcome Abbott’s Mill educator

Posted

GEORGETOWN — Sussex Academy kindergarteners learned about the habits of animals in winter thanks to a special visit from Abbott’s Mill Nature Center teacher naturalist Heidi Ferguson.

After reading the children’s book “Time to Sleep” by Denise Fleming, Ms. Ferguson spoke with students in Laurie Smailer and Lara Lane’s classes about the different seasons and how animals prepare for winter.

Ms. Ferguson displayed and discussed several animals from Abbott’s Mill taxidermied collection, including a great horned owl, squirrel, red fox, gull, skunk and woodchuck and brought a live box turtle for students to observe.
