Student applicants wanted for Time Traveler History Camp at Teackle Mansion

PRINCESS ANNE — Somerset County students entering the fifth and sixth grades this fall can step back in time this summer at historic Teackle Mansion.

Applications are now being accepted for the Time Travelers History Camp hosted by the Somerset County Historical Society, June 22-26. The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (lunch is not provided).

Campers will use their hands and mind to experience and imagine themselves living in the early 19th century. Traditional crafts from tin piercing, weaving and fiber arts will be joined with games and foods of that era.

There will be blacksmithing, church bell ringing, music and country dancing, with lessons also from Native and African American heritage. Campers will be led by historic interpreters and artisans through the activities.

On the last day there will be a reception for parents so students and showcase their handiwork and experiences.

For an application visit http://www.somersetcountyhistoricalsociety.org/ and in the menu under Teackle Mansion click on the Education tab. Students will be required to complete an essay on why they would like to attend, and submit a letter of reference.

The deadline to apply is May 22. Transportation to and from the camp is not provided.
