DOVER — A 19-year-old Wilmington man was charged with possessing a stolen vehicle, following a traffic stop Saturday.

Dover police spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said, at around 10:25 p.m., officers were notified of a stolen vehicle in the area of North Dupont Highway and Scarborough Road. They responded to the area and located the vehicle traveling south on the highway, turning onto College Road.

Police initiated a traffic stop in the 400 block of College Road, at which time the vehicle fled toward Delaware State University’s campus, Cpl. Schmid said. It stopped in the area of the school, and three occupants exited, running from officers, he added.

Driver King Grasty was taken into custody after a foot pursuit, and he was found with 3.2 grams of cocaine, police said. Officers also located a 9 mm handgun in the path where the passengers fled, Cpl. Schmid said.

The driver was charged with receiving stolen property, disregarding a police officer’s signal, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance. He was released on $4,350 unsecured bond.
