Goodman, 51 DOVER - Stephen Edward Goodman, 51, formerly of Dover, died suddenly in Foley, Ala., on Saturday, March 3, 2012. A graduate of Caesar Rodney High School and the Delaware State Police Academy, Steve lived his dream - as an aviator. A pilot at the age of 16, Steve logged more than 16,000 flying hours in his 35-year career. Licensed to fly everything from Astra Jets to seaplanes to crop dusters to helicopters, Learjets and more; we always delighted in hearing him tell of his escapades and adventures - aerobatics with the Rosie O'Grady Flying Circus, fighting forest fires from the air in the Pacific Northwest or piloting the "rich and famous". He built several planes and owned several more during a lifetime that was far too brief. Steve lived life on the edge. His passion and respect for speed, his quest for knowledge, his zest for life, his generous spirit and devotion to his mother, family and friends was evident every day of his life. Steve's quick wit, bright smile and gregarious nature will always be remembered and cherished by all of us. We loved him very much. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Edward B. Goodman. He is survived by his wife, Linda and stepson Dan of Foley, Ala.; his mother, Kathleen J. Goodman of Dover; his sister, Lorraine J. Dion; brother-in-law, Russell Dion; his sister, Kathleen A. Williams; niece, Jennifer Gillespie and husband Chris Gillespie; niece, Kristin Williams and partner Jesse Seeney; niece, Melody Elgesem and husband Robert Elgesem; two great-nieces and two great-nephews, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Services and burial will be private. Contributions, in memory of Steve, to the Air Mobility Command Museum, 1301 Heritage Road, Dover, DE 19902, will graciously be accepted.
