PRINCESS ANNE — The State Police are still looking for a third suspect wanted in connection with a home invasion in Crisfield. Zachary Deprist Scott, 29, is being sought on an active warrant for attempted second degree murder, attempted armed robbery, 1st and 2nd degree assault and home invasion.
It was a quarter past midnight on Wednesday, Jan. 7 when the Princess Anne Barrack received a 911 call regarding a home invasion in the area of Strobel Lane. Troopers responded and found a victim in a residence suffering from injuries to the back of his head.
The victim was interviewed and stated that just after midnight, three black males, wearing all black with black hoodies, forced entry into his residence and held him at gunpoint. The victim stated that one of the males had a handgun pointed at his head while the other two suspects began beating him and suffocating him with his pillow.
The victim stated that he thought he was going to die. The victim stated that they kept demanding for him to give him his money. The victim stated that he was able to break free and run out of his back door. The victim stated that he was followed by two of the suspects and that the third suspect went out the front door. The victim stated that the beating continued once outside and that he was screaming for help. The victim stated that a neighbor yelled over at the suspects and that the suspects then ran away.
Investigators from the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division were called out to take over the investigation. Investigators conducted numerous interviews and were able to identify the three suspects. All three suspects were identified utilizing a photo lineup with the victim.
The victim was able to identify 28 year old Gary Rudolph Jones, 33 year old Pierre Cardin Whittington and 29 year old Zachary Depriest Scott as the individuals who committed the home invasion. Investigators located and arrested Jones and Whittington. During the arrest of Whittington he was found to be in possession of numerous individually wrapped baggies of crack/cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school zone. Jones and Whittington were charged with numerous charges to include attempted second degree murder, attempted armed robbery, 1st and 2nd degree assault and home invasion.
Jones and Whittington were transported to the District Court Commissioner and held on a $500,000 bond. All three suspects have been convicted of a crime previously which prohibits them from possessing firearms. Whittington will be charged at a later date for the possession with intent to distribute crack/cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school zone. Zachary Scott has still not been located and there is an active warrant for his arrest for attempted second degree murder, attempted armed robbery, 1st and 2nd degree assault and home invasion.
