FELTON - Stanley W. von Essen, Jr. went home to be with Our Lord and Savior on Friday, May 19th, 2017 at home, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Amityville, N.Y. to the late Stanley W. Sr. and Frances (Ryder) von Essen. Stan was an accountant in fiscal management in the Office of the Secretary for the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control for over 30 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had an avid interest in guns. He was a member of the Saltfish Club and the NRA. Stan was an instructor for the Delaware Hunter Education Program for over 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Linda (Viele) von Essen; children, Stanley W. von Essen, III, of Milford, Jennifer von Essen of Bridgeville and Kimberley Potter, of North Pole, Alaska; sister, Ruth Marshall of Millsboro; very dear friend, Michael Stewart of Felton; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 42 foster brothers; and his extended family and many friends. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Southside Baptist Church, 4904 S DuPont Hwy., Dover. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at 1 p.m. at the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stanley's memory to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements are in the care of Berry-Short Funeral Home in Felton.
