Several days ago, I received a survey in the mail purported to be from Rep. Sarah McBride and Sens. Lisa Blunt Rochester and Chris Coons, all D-Del. It was, in fact, a piece of propaganda from Ralph Reed, the chair of the Faith & Freedom Coalition, titled the “2026 Voter Confirmation and Survey of 10,000,000 Americans.” He states, in part, “The 2026 Midterm Congressional Elections will be here in no time. If the radical, anti-Christian, Left manages to retake the House, the Senate or both in 2026, this will effectively END the Trump Presidency because the Left will be able to block everything the President is trying to do and will get back to harassing him relentlessly with investigation, LAWFARE and another Democrat IMPEACHMENT. This would set up the radical Left to win the White House in 2028. The side That REGISTERS the most new voters always wins national Elections. The Goal of the Faith and Freedom Coalition is to register over 10,000,000 new Christian Conservatives in battleground states so they can defeat the Left’s Plan to seize control of Congress, resume their harassment of President (Donald) Trump, ERASE CHRISTIANITY from America, and turn America into a Third World country with their fanatical commitment to ‘open borders.’”
One of the things I resent the most about this screed is the implication that a Democrat cannot be a Christian.
What the Christian nationalist movement ignores is the New Testament Christ, who admonished us to love our neighbors. He befriended the tax collector and the prostitute. He fed the poor and healed the sick, and women were an active part of his ministry.
We are dealing with an administration that has taken away the right of the poor to medical assistance, the hungry to supplementary food benefits and women to domain over their bodies. Immigrants fleeing civil unrest and seeking a better way of life are put in concentration camps before they are thrown out of the country. The poor are taxed and not the rich. The government attempts to marginalize people of color and take away their votes.
America was not founded as a White Christian nationalist nation. The wonder of our country is our diversity and inclusivity. We were all immigrants at some point, many of us fleeing religious persecution. Have we forgotten who we are and what we stand for?
