DOVER — More than 90 Special Olympics athletes and over 30 coaches from Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia are set to compete in the annual Special Olympics Delaware Cycling Classic on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Danner Campus – DelDOT Administration/Dover DMV, located at 800 Bay Road, Dover, DE 19901.
The day will begin with registration and warm-ups, followed by the opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m. The cycling competitions will commence at 10 a.m. and include races of various distances to accommodate different skill levels. Awards will be given throughout the day after each event ends.
“Cycling showcases so much more than athletic achievement. Behind every athlete is a network of coaches, family members, volunteers, and supporters who help make success possible,” said Kylie Lavelle, Director of Sports & Area Engagement for Special Olympics Delaware. “The encouragement athletes receive throughout training and competition builds confidence, creates meaningful connections, and reinforces the sense of belonging that is at the heart of Special Olympics. It’s inspiring to see our community come together to celebrate each athlete’s accomplishments both on and off the course.”
