Speak Up: COVID hospitalizations continue

Posted

Ninety percent of Delaware’s recent COVID-19 hospitalizations occurred in individuals who were not fully vaccinated. For the week of Aug. 30 to Sept. 5, the most recent available data, 120 of the 133 new hospitalizations (90%) were of those who were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, according to statistics via the Delaware Division of Public Health.

  • So I should be dead. Why then did the hospital want my blood to spin it for those with poor immune systems? — Howard Gaines III
  • You were lucky. Many aren’t. — Sally Stewart
  • Deflect all you want. Math is math. The hospitals are full of COVID patients. More than 90% of them aren’t fully vaccinated. — Michael McGaughey
  • Ninety-nine percent recovery rate is more science. Then, he was lucky. — Beth Gallagher
  • Assuming you are correct and the death rate is 1%, that means that if, say, 60 million people contract the virus, 600,000 will die. One percent of a huge number is still a huge number. Add to that the number of people who will suffer prolonged, maybe even lifelong, symptoms, and the effect is multiplied. He was lucky to be in the 99%. Just ask the families of those who have died. — Sally Stewart
  • Odd because 90% of those in hospitals are unvaccinated. Makes a profound statement that being unvaccinated makes you sicker than if you are vaccinated. Taking beds away from people who have other problems. — Dennis Norwood
  • Of the 120, how many were partially vaccinated? Based on approximately 1 million residents, still very low numbers. Keep up the divide, Delaware State News. — Eric S. Shimp
  • Not the flu though, as most anti-vax and anti-mask proponents suggest. We know from last year, when we didn’t even have a vaccine, that the numbers will go up, so buckle up or get vaccinated, if you haven’t already. So many will unfortunately and unnecessarily die this fall and winter because of their political beliefs. Wishing you well! — Elizabeth Hettinger Larlham
