A bill has been introduced in the Delaware Senate that would allow front car windows to be 35% darker. It would continue to allow any level of tint on rear side windows and rear windshields. What do you think of this proposal? Is less window tint needed for safety?
This is so needed, and I hope it passes. There is so much more positive than negative about having front-side tinted windows. I have been approached by numerous police officers for other reasons besides my tint, and they never have questioned my tinted front-side windows. They’ve actually told me they don’t agree with the law because they know of the positivity. But they have also told me it is the very black tinted windows they have concerns with when stopping and approaching a driver. Thank you, Sen. Eric Buckson. If this bill passes, it will certainly save me money and numerous trips to the business that does my tint because I pay to have tint removed from two front-side windows, run to the Division of Motor Vehicles for an inspection and tags, then go back and pay for tint to be installed again! — Cindy M. Yes, darker tint would be safer, especially for morning and evening commutes. — Chuck Holliday
Tint needs to be lighter. — Deb Bradl
If you told me cars with tinted windows were dangerous to police officers, I would agree. But then, I got pulled over on U.S. 13 northbound, south of Townsend, by a state police officer for my tint only. If it’s so dangerous, why risk it? There was no other reason for the stop. I thought people told this story as a fallacy, but no, good sirs and ladies, this is fact. Let the people have tint! — Eddie Curley
My wife has skin cancer. She has a doctor-approved waiver to tint the windows to protect her from further issues. While I support police and want to protect them, my wife’s health comes first. This would prevent having to see a doctor to get forms signed, then going to the Division of Motor Vehicles and that hassle. — Bob Hice
Why have a tint law? No one abides by it anyway! — Lisa White
Our electric bills are outrageous, and legislators are worried about window tint. — Tara Donofrio
It’s not safe for police! — Walter Howard Barcus
If I don’t have to deal with patients bringing in Division of Motor Vehicles tint waivers ever again, absolutely yes! — Troy Raber
No. Mind your own business, and I’ll mind mine! — Mandi Thompson Carter
This is bull. Tinted windows are a hindrance to law enforcement. If you can’t deal with the sun, wear sunglasses. — Charles Garrod
For what purpose? It’s about as dumb as wearing a hood over your face. I think people should be able to see who is parked next to them in a parking lot, and police should be able to see inside a car. — Monica Prettner
Insurance rates are high enough already in Delaware because there are too many people and too little infrastructure. Now, let’s obstruct some of these drivers’ views even more. What could possibly go wrong? — Ted Rodgers
