Shirley Elizabeth Shubrooks

DOVER - Shirley Elizabeth Shubrooks, of Dover, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at Courtland Manor Nursing Home. She was 86. Mrs. Shubrooks was born March 25, 1925, in Chester, Pa., to the late John Wesley and Mabel Girard Chism. Mrs. Shubrooks worked for International Playtex for about 5 years, until she married, and became a homemaker and mother. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dover, enjoyed the beach, surf fishing, and antiquing. Mrs. Shubrooks was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John Jester Shubrooks in 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Irene Semans of Dover; grandson, Michael Semans and his wife Lisa of Felton; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Semans; sister-in-law, Betty Baker and her husband Watson of Felton; and niece, Ellen Cowgill and her husband Charlie of Smyrna. Services will be noon, Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 East Lebanon Road, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
